Understand campaign analytics and conversion attribution

Once a campaign is sent, Dondy reports back on how it preformed

  • Sent: Number of messages accepted by the WhatsApp API for delivery.
  • Delivered: WhatsApp has successfully delivered the message to the recipient’s device.
  • Read: WhatsApp has reported a read status for the message, typically represented by the two blue checkmarks when read receipts are enabled.
  • Unsubscribe Rate: Percentage of recipients who explicitly opt out of marketing communications through the available opt-out/unsubscribe mechanism after receiving the campaign.
  • Conversion Rate: Percentage of recipients who completed a tracked purchase or followed the link attributed to the WhatsApp campaign, based on the campaign’s attribution window.
  • Orders: Number of Shopify orders attributed to customers who interacted with the WhatsApp campaign.
  • Revenue: Total value of the Shopify orders, according to the attribution rule.
  • Spend: Total amount charged for sending the WhatsApp campaign.
  • ROAS: Revenue generated from the campaign compared to campaign spend, expressed as a percentage (e.g., 500% ROAS means $5 in revenue for every $1 spent).

Attribution is how Dondy determines which sales count as a result of a campaign. Dondy attributes an order to a phone number if the customer received a marketing message (such as a campaign) within a set time window before making a purchase. The default window is 7 days: if the customer makes a purchase within 7 days of receiving the campaign, that sale is attributed to it.

You can change this under Dondy App → Settings → Revenue attribution settings. A longer window attributes more sales to your campaigns, while a shorter window is stricter.

When you send matters: you set the campaign’s send time when you schedule it, and reviewing when messages were sent and delivered helps you interpret the results and choose better send times next time.

The number of people who actually receive the campaign is usually smaller than the segment. People are excluded when they:

  • Have no phone number on file (unreachable on WhatsApp).
  • Have no WhatsApp account.
  • Already received a campaign within the last X days (you can exclude recent recipients).
  • Are filtered out by Meta's daily limits and ecosystem-protection rules.
  • Previously opted out.

If the numbers look off, trace them in order:

  1. Audience smaller than the segment? That's the exclusions at work (no phone, no WhatsApp, recent recipients, Meta limits, opt-outs).
  1. Fewer deliveries than sends? Some messages didn't reach the customer (bad number, no WhatsApp account, or blocked by Meta). These aren't charged.
  1. Less attributed revenue than expected? Check the attribution window length, purchases outside the window, and customers who bought through another channel.
  1. Comparing to Shopify? Make sure you're comparing the same thing in the same place: campaign-attributed revenue in Dondy vs. total sales in Shopify are different measures.
